Celebrating Ten Years of World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft officially turns 10 years old this Sunday.  Many of us have been playing the game that entire time and I can’t believe it’s really been ten years already.  Blizzard isn’t letting us forget though, they’re marking this huge milestone with two activities that players can take advantage of during the celebration.  They’ve also setup a bonus for players who log in during the Anniversary time frame which runs up until January 5th.

A Fiery New Friend

So if you’re a World of Warcraft player make sure you log into the game sometime between now and January 5th, although I imagine that won’t be anything out of the ordinary for you.  You’ll receive a 10th Anniversary Achievement that comes with a tiny Molten Corgi to be added to your pet collection, which is a Rare quality Elemental battle pet.

 Maximum Molten Core

Players can use the Raid Finder to join a level 100 version of the classic Molten Core raid from the original World of Warcraft game, prior to all of the expansions.  Molten Core will still require 40 players to coordinate together and face off against 10 bosses.  This time though, you’ll be trying to coordinate with 40 random players so I’m interested to see how well that goes.  You’ll fight all of the original bosses including Lucifron, Magmadar, Garr, Shazzrah, Baron Geddon, Golemagg the Incinerator, Sulfuron Harbinger, Majordomo Executive and you’ll finish off the raid with Ragnaros the Fire Lord.

By defeating Ragnaros you’ll earn an iLevel 640 helm for your primary spec that uses the same model of the old Crown of Destruction.  You’ll also receive a really cool looking Core Hound mount guaranteed to drop.  There’s also a chance for players to receive a battle pet named Hatespark as well as an item called Flames of Ragnaros that will make your weapon appear to glow with fire.

Players must be at least item level 615 in order to queue up for Maximum Molten Core.  I’d also suggest checking out some guides on the original Molten Core Raid if you haven’t done it before.  You’ll be matched up with 39 other random players it would be in everyone’s best interest if you knew all of the fights.  Wowhead has a pretty solid Molten Core Guide available for those of you that need to brush up on the fights.

Southshore vs. Tarren Mill – The Battle Continues

Blizzard is also bringing back one of the old World PvP hot spots into it’s own 40 man battleground.  I’m excited to jump into this battleground and see how it goes.  It’s a Team Deathmatch style Battleground based on the struggle between Tarren Mill and Southshore.  Unlike typical World PvP however this will be instanced and there will be a clear winner at the end of the match.  The winning team will receive a new title depending on their faction, either Tarren Mill Terror for the Alliance or Southshore Slayer for the Horde.
