The Gaming Developer’s Conference (GDC) is happening now in San Francisco, and during the annual gaming event, new updates and releases are being announced. One of these new releases is Ashes of the Singularity, which promises to redefine and redevelop the Real-Time Strategy genre of games.
In Ashes of the Singularity, Developer Stardock (in association with Oxide Games), hope to bring something that players have never seen before. Typically, in RTS games, the scope of engagement is limited to basically a large battle fought by competing forces. In Ashes of the Singularity, however, they hope to increase the scope exponentially and allow players to truly have a God like presence as they oversee an entire war, being engaged on multiple fronts with hundreds, if not thousands of units at a time.
In order to accommodate such an expansive gameplay, Oxide Games had to create a new 3D engine to contain it. Ashes of the Singularity promises to be unlike anything that gamers have seen before, and hopes to be the gold standard in the RTS genre.
